With air pollution levels in Delhi reaching hazardous levels, the Delhi government on Thursday announced closure of all primary schools and transition to online classes until further notice. <\/p>\n

Delhi CM Atishi<\/a> took to her X and said, “Due to rising pollution levels, all primary schools in Delhi will be shifting to online classes, until further directions.”<\/p>\n

Delhi\u2019s air quality has rapidly deteriorated over the past few days, with readings crossing the 400 AQI mark in many areas.<\/p>\n

Just today, the government implemented Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan<\/a> (GRAP-3) to tackle pollution through a series of emergency measures.GRAP-3 restrictions include halting construction and demolition activities, reducing industrial emissions, and cutting down vehicular traffic, especially diesel-powered vehicles, across the National Capital Region (NCR).<\/p>\n

Warrior moms urge govt for more measures<\/h2>\n

With pollution peaking annually during the winter months, parents and citizen action groups have raised urgent concerns over the impact on children\u2019s health. <\/p>\n

On Children\u2019s Day, a group called Warrior Moms\u2014a network of mothers advocating for clean air\u2014visited the Union Health Ministry to submit a memorandum detailing the rise in respiratory issues among children, PTI reported. They also presented a letter urging Health Minister JP Nadda to address the public health crisis and establish stricter pollution controls. <\/p>\n

The impact of Delhi\u2019s toxic air on children has been severe. A chemist in east Delhi noted a surge in demand for pediatric nebulizers and low-dose inhalers this November. \u201cIt\u2019s alarming to see so many parents coming in for respiratory aids for their children,” he told PTI, sharing that a parent had mentioned her five-year-old daughter was on her third round of antibiotics for respiratory infections this season.<\/p>\n

In their letter, Warrior Moms urged the health ministry to make respiratory aids more readily available for children, establish real-time air quality monitoring in public spaces, and consider creating low-emission zones around hospitals to protect vulnerable groups. <\/p>\n

They also advocated for awareness campaigns, adequate supplies of respiratory medications, and a health surveillance system specifically to monitor pollution-linked illnesses.
