NEW DELHI: The Australian media had already declared Yashasvi Jaiswal<\/a> as ‘The New King’ even before this edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy got underway in Australia.
And though the Indian opener fell for a duck in the first innings of the first Test in Perth, he more than made up for it with a swashbuckling hundred in the second essay and he reached the landmark with a six.

Having impressed one and all with his defining strokeplay and temperament, Aussie greats Adam Gilchrist<\/a> and Brett Lee<\/a> were effusive in their praise for Jaiswal while doing commentary in the first Test.
In a video that is doing the rounds on social media, Gilchrist says, “That is six! And that is a hundred, the fourth Test match century for a young man who arrived in Australia with a huge reputation, from humble beginnings, how big things can grow, he had delivered with a touch of class. What a moment, Yashasvi Jaiswal!”<\/p>\n

After ML Jaisimha (Brisbane, 1967-68) and Sunil Gavaskar<\/a> (Brisbane, 1977-78), Jaiswal became the third Indian to hit a Test hundred on maiden appearance in Australia<\/p>\n

The left-handed Jaiswal received a let-off on 52 when Usman Khawaja missed a tough opportunity, but his dominant innings was almost flawless.<\/p>\n

Jaiswal scored his first century in Australia in his 15th Test match.<\/p>\n

Jaiswal has solidified his position at the top of the order after making his debut against the West Indies in 2023 with a commanding 171.
His best score is an undefeated 214 against England and he has an average of over 56.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
