Phil Hughes was struck on the neck by a bouncer delivered by Sean Abbott during a Sheffield Shield match. He was subsequently hospitalized but was declared dead two days later, on November 27, 2014. Hughes collapsed on the field and was immediately rushed to a Sydney hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Sadly, despite all efforts to save him, Hughes passed away on November 27, 2014, just three days prior to his 26th birthday.
