Further information came to light. The transport secretary resigns.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Tory leader accused Sir Keir of having &#8220;knowingly appointed a convicted fraudster to be a transport secretary&#8221; and asked: &#8220;What was he thinking?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said Ms Haigh &#8220;was right, when further information came forward, to resign&#8221;.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-article-widget sdc-article-image\">\n<figure class=\"sdc-article-image__figure\">\n<div class=\"sdc-article-image__wrapper\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"ui-media-caption\">\n        <span class=\"u-hide-visually\">Image:<\/span><br \/>\n        <span class=\"ui-media-caption__caption-text\">Sir Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch faced off over Louise Haigh at PMQs<br \/>\n        <\/span><br \/>\n      <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>But Ms Badenoch accused him of never answering questions and allowing someone convicted of fraud to award pay rises to public sector workers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And it looks like he didn&#8217;t ask his transport secretary any questions either,&#8221; she told the Commons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The truth is, he appointed a person convicted of fraud to the cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The first thing she did was bung hundreds of millions of pounds in pay rises to her trade union friends. Wasn&#8217;t this a fraud on the British people?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Badenoch was referring to the 15% pay rise Labour gave train drivers shortly after coming to power in July.<\/p>\n<p>They also gave above-inflation pay rises to several other public sector workers, including teachers, most NHS workers and members of the armed forces.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more:<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/plan-to-boost-prison-capacity-could-cost-4bn-extra-and-be-short-thousands-of-cell-spaces-13266701\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plan to boost prison capacity<\/a><\/strong><br \/><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/something-remarkable-is-happening-with-gen-z-is-reform-uk-winning-the-bro-vote-13265490\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Is Reform winning the &#8216;bro vote&#8217;?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/driving-test-bosses-bullying-examiners-to-be-lenient-with-learners-to-reduce-covid-backlog-13266445\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ms Haigh has declined to say officially if the prime minister knew about the conviction when he appointed his cabinet in July.<\/p>\n<p>A source told Sky News&#8217; political editor Beth Rigby that the story that emerged on Thursday was &#8220;inconsistent&#8221; with what Sir Keir had been told when Ms Haigh was appointed to his shadow cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Haigh said the incident arose after she was &#8220;mugged while on a night out&#8221; in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>She said she reported the incident to the police and gave officers a list of items she believed had been taken &#8211; including a work mobile phone.<\/p>\n<p>     <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/download-app\" target=\"blank\" data-tracking-label=\"ui-app-promo-download-link\" class=\"ui-app-promo sdc-article-widget\" data-type=\"\" data-component-name=\"ui-app-promo\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, she told Sky News she discovered &#8220;some time later&#8221; that &#8220;the mobile in question had not been taken&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In the interim, she was issued with another work phone.
