Greek prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is planning to travel to India in February, his second visit in as many years, with issues including the India Middle East Economic Corridor (IMEEC), investments and defence partnership likely to top the agenda.<\/p>\n

Mitsotakis met some Indian investors during a trip to London recently, it is learnt. He wants Indian businesses to seize the opportunities provided by the reinvigorated Greek economy and invest in Greece in ports, logistics, energy, and supply chains.<\/p>\n

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/a> received a telephone call from Mitsotakis. They reviewed progress in several areas of bilateral cooperation, including trade, defence, shipping and connectivity<\/a>, in a follow-up to PM Mitsotakis\u2019s visit to India earlier this year. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of interest, including IMEEC and developments in West Asia.<\/p>\n

During the last visit of Mitsotakis here in February, India and Greece had agreed to work on co-production and co-development of defence items and decided to firm up a mobility and migration pact.<\/p>\n

Underscoring the importance of working closely together to promote international and regional peace and prosperity, the two PMs had at the time agreed to hold regular contacts between their foreign ministries to exchange views on global and regional security threats, particularly in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Indo-Pacific regions to deepen interaction and expand cooperation in security and strategic areas of common interest, including maritime, cyber and hybrid threats.<\/p>\n


On the occasion, Mitsotakis inaugurated India\u2019s premier foreign policy forum, The Raisina Dialogue<\/a>.Outreach to Greece, Italy and Spain is part of India\u2019s strategy to boost multifaceted cooperation with southern Europe and create a partnership in the Mediterranean. Balkan States along the Mediterranean including Slovenia also figure in New Delhi\u2019s outreach to the region.Southern European countries besides France differ from some of the Western European states in dealing with India by taking a broad based approach instead of what New Delhi views as lecturing India on the country\u2019s internal affairs.<\/div>\n
