NEW DELHI: Carrying forward the cricketing legacy of his father, Virender Sehwag<\/a>, 14-year-old Vedant Sehwag showcased his talent with a commendable four-wicket haul for Delhi U-16 in the Vijay Merchant Trophy on Saturday.
Facing a formidable Punjab side in Shimoga, Vedant stood out despite Punjab\u2019s imposing total of 469 in their first innings.
Off-spinner Vedant\u2019s perseverance was crucial in breaking Punjab\u2019s batting momentum. After the opening pair of Gursimran Singh (196) and Advik Singh (90) added a massive 163-run stand, Vedant provided the breakthrough by dismissing Advik. He struck again later, claiming Arvind Singh (56) and followed it up by taking the prized wicket of Gursimran, who was closing in on a double century. He then dismissed Saksheya to complete his four-for.
Bowling tirelessly, Vedant delivered 40 overs, including 10 maidens, and conceded 140 runs. His spell featured 178 dot balls, showcasing his ability to maintain control and challenge batters over long spells. Alongside Prince Mishra, who took 4 for 97, Vedant\u2019s efforts ensured Delhi stayed in the fight, though Punjab remained in a dominant position.<\/p>\n
