Karnataka<\/a>\u2019s industries minister MB Patil on Friday said he cannot publicly discuss the investment proposals the State is pursuing with large multinationals such as Foxconn or Tesla<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The minister\u2019s post on X came in response to a comment by Aarin Capital chairman Mohandas Pai<\/a> that Telangana government was in talks with Tesla to set up an electric car plant. \u201cIs GoK wooing Tesla and Elon Musk to come to Karnataka? Best place in India!\u201d the former Infosys<\/a> director said, seeking to nudge the Congress regime to pursue the electric vehicle maker.<\/p>\n

His comment followed remarks by Telangana Industries<\/a> Minister Duddila Sridhar Babu that his government had been tracking Tesla’s planned investment initiatives in India and making efforts to bring the EV maker to Telangana. <\/p>\n

Patil responded in a post on X: \u201cLast time GoK and then CM tweeted, which wasn\u2019t welcome. When dealing with MNCs, like Foxconn, Tesla, or any other large corporations, sensitivity is vital. What the Govt is Doing or Not Doing, cannot be entirely discussed in the public domain. This is not politics, and the administration will have to behave maturely. Hence the department and I would not like to comment on such matters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Soon after Tesla registered a subsidiary in Bengaluru in January 2021, speculation swirled about the electric vehicle maker\u2019s plans to enter the Indian automobile sector.<\/p>\n

The then CM, BS Yediyurappa, had even issued the statement confirming that Tesla would indeed set up an R&D unit in Bengaluru.<\/div>\n
