Inflation &#8211; which measures price changes over time &#8211; is predicted to average 2.6% next year.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Last week Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer drew <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cx27nzwqg1qo\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">ire from one of the largest civil service unions<!-- --><\/a> after claiming &#8220;too many people in Whitehall are comfortable in the tepid bath of managed decline&#8221;. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Pat McFadden, the minister in charge of the Cabinet Office, echoed the PMs comments on Monday <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c8xjqvngekjo\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">when announcing plans to shake-up to civil service hiring<!-- --><\/a> to make government &#8220;think a little bit more like a start-up&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">McFadden said he did not have a &#8220;target for headcount&#8221; in the civil service, claiming his focus was on making officials more productive.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Mike Clancy, general secretary of the Prospect trade union, said: &#8220;We need a clear plan for the future of the civil service that goes beyond the blunt headcount targets that have failed in the past.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">&#8220;This plan needs to be developed in partnership with civil servants and their unions, and we look forward to deeper engagement with the government in the coming months.&#8221;<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cdek2ygzz8eo\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 10,000 civil servants jobs could be cut as part of Labour&#8217;s push for 5% savings across its departments, a government source has said.
