However, he called off his visit at the last moment after\u00a0Tesla\u00a0decided to sack 10 percent of its staff amid falling sales.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"sp_lnk2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gadgets360.com\/tags\/tesla\">Tesla<\/a>, which had paused its\u00a0search\u00a0for a\u00a0showroom\u00a0in India in recent months, is now in early-stage talks with\u00a0DLF\u00a0to help secure space in the capital region, said the two\u00a0sources, who have direct knowledge of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>A third source said it is not certain that\u00a0Tesla&#8217;s talks with\u00a0India&#8217;s\u00a0biggest property developer will lead to a deal and the electric vehicle giant is also in discussions with others.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u00a0and\u00a0DLF\u00a0did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>One of the\u00a0sources\u00a0said\u00a0Tesla\u00a0is looking for 3,000 to 5,000 square feet (280-465 square metres) to create a consumer experience centre as well as a space three times larger for its delivery and service operations.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u00a0is evaluating multiple locations including\u00a0DLF&#8217;s Avenue Mall in southern\u00a0Delhi\u00a0and the Cyber Hub office and retail complex in nearby Gurugram city, the source added.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign retailers including Japan&#8217;s Uniqlo, Spain&#8217;s Mango and Britain&#8217;s Marks and Spencer also have outlets in the Avenue Mall, where\u00a0Tesla\u00a0is looking to secure an 8,000 square feet\u00a0showroom\u00a0space, the second source said.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla&#8217;s\u00a0search\u00a0is still &#8220;exploratory&#8221; and nothing has been finalised, the first source said.<\/p>\n<p>It was not immediately clear whether\u00a0Tesla\u00a0will consider importing cars at the tax rate of as high as 100 percent or if it will make investment commitments under\u00a0India&#8217;s\u00a0new\u00a0policy, which would allow it to import certain <a class=\"sp_lnk2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gadgets360.com\/tags\/electric-vehicle\">EVs<\/a> at a lower rate of 15 percent.<\/p>\n<p>After\u00a0Tesla\u00a0did not deliver on earlier investment plans,\u00a0India&#8217;s\u00a0government is trying to relax certain provisions of its policy to attract automakers such as Hyundai Motor and Toyota which have expressed initial interest.<\/p>\n<p>India&#8217;s\u00a0EV market is small, making up about two percent of total car sales of 4 million last year, but the government wants to increase the share to 30 percent by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla&#8217;s\u00a0showroom\u00a0hunt comes as Musk&#8217;s <a class=\"sp_lnk2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gadgets360.com\/tags\/starlink\">Starlink<\/a> is also considering entering India after winning a lobbying battle against billionaire Mukesh Ambani over how\u00a0New\u00a0Delhi\u00a0should allocate spectrum for the service.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a9 Thomson Reuters 2024<\/em><\/p>\n<p><i>(This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed.)<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gadgets360.com\/auto\/news\/tesla-search-restart-new-delhi-showroom-dlf-7222670#rss-gadgets-news\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elon Musk&#8217;s\u00a0Tesla\u00a0has resumed its\u00a0search\u00a0for\u00a0showroom\u00a0space in\u00a0New\u00a0Delhi, two\u00a0sources\u00a0told Reuters, in the first sign it is rethinking entering the Indian market after putting its investment plans on hold earlier this year.
