She stated, in a statement to phys.org, that active centaurs undergo transformations due to solar heating, which provides valuable information about their composition and behaviour. Chiron&#8217;s coma, a gaseous envelope surrounding the surface, allows researchers to study gases originating from beneath the surface, a feature that is not as prominent in other celestial bodies like trans-Neptunian objects or typical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gadgets360.com\/tags\/asteroids\">asteroids<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"implications-for-understanding-the-solar-system\">Implications for Understanding the Solar System<\/h2>\n<p>Dr Charles Schambeau, Assistant Scientist at UCF, who specialises in studying centaurs and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gadgets360.com\/tags\/comets\">comets<\/a>, highlighted in a statement that Chiron&#8217;s unique properties, including its activity patterns and possible debris rings, make it an exceptional case.
