Once the pillars of India’s batting lineup, both Virat and Rohit have struggled for consistency in recent years, prompting speculation about whether it’s time for them to step aside from the longest format. Here’s a look at Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s Test records over the past five years.

Rohit Sharma’s decline in form

Rohit Sharma’s exclusion from the playing XI for Sydney Test raised questions. While it was officially stated that the decision was made “in the team’s interest,” many have speculated about the reasons behind the captain’s omission. Between January 2020 and December 2024, Rohit played 63 innings, scoring 2,160 runs at an average of 36. He has registered six centuries during this period, with a highest score of 161. However, the bulk of these runs have come in home conditions, highlighting his continued struggles overseas.

Virat Kohli’s inconsistent performances

Virat Kohli’s form has also been underwhelming. From January 2020 to December 2024, he has played 67 innings in 38 Tests, amassing 2,005 runs at an average of 31.33 and a strike rate of 49.26. Kohli has managed only three centuries in this period, with his highest score being 186. Despite similar match exposure, Kohli’s statistics have dipped further compared to Rohit’s, leaving fans concerned about his form.
