The King will travel to Poland to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.<\/p>\n

Charles will join other dignitaries and Holocaust survivors at a service held at the Auschwitz-Birkenau museum and memorial at the end of January.<\/p>\n

He will also meet members of the local community in Krakow before the service, Buckingham Palace has said.<\/p>\n

Away from the Holocaust anniversary, the King is set to meet Poland’s President Andrzej Duda during his fifth trip to the country.<\/p>\n

He previously visited in 2008 with Queen Camilla, and in 2010 as part of a wider European tour which also took in Hungary and the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n

The King will also host a reception at Buckingham Palace to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January.<\/p>\n

The event will showcase projects aimed at educating future generations about the Holocaust and Charles will meet 94-year-old Manfred Goldberg, who survived concentration camps, including Stutthof, and a death march.<\/p>\n

More than a million people, mostly Jews but also Poles, Soviet prisoners of war and other nationalities, were murdered by the Nazis at Auschwitz-Birkenau during the Second World War.<\/p>\n

The camp was liberated by soldiers of the 60th Army of the First Ukrainian Front who opened the gates on 27 January 1945.<\/p>\n

In total, around six million Jewish men, women and children were killed in the Holocaust, along with millions of non-Jews from other groups persecuted by the Nazis.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
