Saif Ali Khan<\/a>, a renowned Bollywood actor, was attacked in the early hours of Thursday while in his Bandra apartment. The assailant, believed to have been attempting a robbery, entered through a fire escape and assaulted the actor, leaving him with multiple stab wounds. The attack occurred around 2:30 am at the actor’s residence, located on the 12th floor of a building in Bandra West.<\/p>\n

CCTV Footage Captures Suspect Fleeing the Scene<\/h2>\n

Following the attack, the Mumbai Police released CCTV images of the suspect, showing him running down the building\u2019s stairwell. The footage, captured at 2:33 am, shows the man in a t-shirt and jeans, with a backpack and what appears to be an orange scarf. Police have described the intruder as being in his late 30s, with a slim build and dark complexion. He was seen walking down the stairs and looking straight at the camera at one point.<\/p>\n

How the Attacker Gained Access to the Apartment<\/h2>\n

According to the police, the attacker likely entered the building with the intention to rob Saif Ali Khan’s apartment. He gained access to the building by scaling a wall next to the compound and using the rear stairs to access the floor where the Khans’ apartment is located. The intruder then entered the flat via the fire escape.<\/p>\n

Saif Ali Khan Confronts the Intruder<\/h2>\n

The first person to spot the intruder was Eliyama Phillipes, a nurse employed at Saif Ali Khan’s residence. Upon noticing the attacker, she screamed, alerting the household. Saif Ali Khan confronted the intruder, attempting to defend his family. The intruder then stabbed Khan multiple times. In an account shared with police, Eliyama described how the assailant, armed with a sharp blade and a stick, initially demanded Rs 1 crore from her. When she resisted, he assaulted her, causing injuries to her wrists and hands.

At this point, the commotion woke the nanny, Junu, who raised the alarm. Saif Ali Khan and his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan<\/a>, quickly rushed to the scene. In the scuffle that ensued, Khan sustained cuts to his neck, spine, and left hand. Another staff member, Geeta, was also injured while trying to intervene. Emergency Surgery and Recovery<\/h2>\n

Saif Ali Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in an auto rickshaw by his son, Ibrahim, and a caretaker. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, COO of Lilavati Hospital, confirmed that the actor was admitted around 3:00 am with multiple injuries. “He was brought in around 3.00 am by his son Ibrahim and a caretaker. The procedure is still going on. There are six injuries \u2013 two were superficial like a nail scratch while others were done by a sharp object,” said Dr. Uttamani.<\/p>\n

Dr. Nitin Dange, who led the surgery, reported that the actor sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a knife lodged in his spine. \u201cA surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid. Two other deep wounds on his left hand and one other on his neck were repaired by the plastic surgery team,\u201d said Dr. Dange. Fortunately, the actor is now stable. \u201cHe is completely stable now. He is recovering well and out of danger,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Investigation Underway as Police Probe Robbery Attempt<\/h2>\n

The police have registered a case of armed robbery and attempted murder, with an investigation underway. The initial probe suggests the intruder may have planned to rob the Khans’ apartment but was thwarted by the confrontation with Saif Ali Khan. Sub-Inspector Suraj Irakte of the Bandra Police stated that the attacker did not force his way into the flat but likely sneaked in through the fire exit at some point during the night.<\/p>\n

As the investigation continues, police are reviewing the CCTV footage for further clues. The suspect is believed to have fled the scene using the building’s staircase. Police have formed multiple teams to track down the attacker.<\/p>\n

The incident has raised questions about security for high-profile figures in Mumbai. Mumbai’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, while acknowledging the severity of the attack, insisted that the city remains one of the safest in the country. \u201cIt is true that some incidents take place sometimes, and they must be taken seriously. But to say that Mumbai is unsafe due to such incidents is not right,” he stated. He assured that the government would continue to make efforts to improve security.<\/p>\n

The attack has prompted concerns about safety, especially in the context of celebrities\u2019 lives in Mumbai. The actor’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and other family members were reportedly present at the time of the incident, though they were not physically harmed.
