Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Donald J Trump after he was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States<\/a>, saying he is looking forward to working closely together once again. “Congratulations my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump on your historic inauguration as the 47th President of the United States! Donald J Trump was on Monday sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, marking his remarkable return to power for a second term four years after he left the American capital as a pariah. The 78-year-old Republican leader storms back to the White House with a strongman persona and a vision of an all-powerful presidency with a promise to aggressively reset US policies in a range of domains, including immigration, tariffs and energy.<\/p>\n

Trump registered a spectacular victory over his Democratic rival Kamala Harris in the November 5 presidential election, defying two assassination attempts, two presidential impeachments and his criminal conviction.<\/p>\n

Declaring that government faces a \u201ccrisis of trust,” Trump said in his inaugural address that under his administration \u201cour sovereignty will be reclaimed. Our safety will be restored. The scales of justice will be rebalanced.”<\/p>\n

Trump claimed \u201ca mandate to completely and totally reverse a horrible betrayal,” promising to \u201cgive the people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy and indeed their freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: “From this moment on, America\u2019s decline is over.\u201d<\/p>\n

The executive orders are the first step in what Trump is calling \u201cthe complete restoration of America and the revolution of common sense.”<\/p>\n

At the Capitol, Vice President JD Vance was sworn-in first, taking the oath read by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh on a bible given to him by his great-grandmother. Trump followed moments after noon, using both a family bible and the one used by President Abraham Lincoln at his 1861 inauguration as Chief Justice John Roberts administered his oath.<\/p>\n

A cadre of billionaires and tech titans \u2014 including Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook and Sundar Pichai \u2014 were given prominent positions in the Capitol Rotunda, mingling with Trump’s incoming team before the ceremony began. Also there was Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, who is expected to lead an effort to slash spending and federal employees.
