Cloud kitchen startup Ghost Kitchens<\/a> has acquired Ahmedabad-based cloud kitchen firm Shy Tiger Brands.<\/p>\n

The acquisition is part of Ghost Kitchens\u2019 expansion strategy in Gujarat, it said in a statement. Shy Tiger operates five multi-brand cloud kitchens<\/a> in Ahmedabad and operates brands like KBOB\u2019s and The Black Chimney. Shy Tiger has an annualised revenue run rate (ARR) of Rs 5 crore, the statement added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe saw this as an opportunity to scale these brands and expand our presence into Ahmedabad and the Gujarat market. Moreover, brand affinity and customer repeat ratio give us a strong position to build up a business. Apart from plugging our brands in their existing kitchens, we could improve the unit economics and get a substantial yield from each kitchen and the entire state,\u201d said Karan Tanna, founder and chief executive at Ghost Kitchens.<\/p>\n

On February 22, Ghost Kitchens had raised $5 million in a mix of debt and equity funding,<\/a> led by Gujarat Venture Finance Ltd. Other participating investors were NB Ventures, LetsVenture, Lead Angels, and existing investors Yuj Ventures<\/a>, Dholakia Ventures and actor Rana Daggubati.<\/p>\n

ET reported on February 27 that the firm had acquired television host and chef Vicky Ratnani\u2019s gourmet cloud kitchen Speak Burgers,<\/a> with Ratnani joining the firm as chief culinary officer and co-founder. Earlier in 2022, Ghost Kitchens had acquired a technology company, WTF<\/a>, which helped it create its proprietary technology.<\/p>\n

Ghost Kitchens operates through over 15 company-owned and -operated cloud kitchens in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, and 1,200 internet restaurants across 40 cities in India.<\/p>\n

Ghost Kitchens was founded in 2019 as a company-operated cloud kitchens network\u2014commercial kitchens for the purpose of preparing food for delivery or takeout only\u2014but soon shut down due to the Covid-19-led downturn. In 2021, the company was relaunched with a fulfilment partner programme, where it licences its own brands to existing restaurants, cloud kitchens and hotel kitchens.The company, which today operates 15 scaled-up and 3-4 pilot brands, over a period of time plans to expand from its fulfilment partner programme model to open quick-service restaurants with dine-in facilities in high-street areas with 25 such retail establishments.<\/p>\n

Tanna had earlier told ET that the company is set to report Rs 40 crore in revenues in FY24, up from Rs 25 crore a year ago. He projected the business to scale to Rs 60-65 crore by FY26.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
