About a dozen states and hundreds of cities across the country consider themselves <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/01\/22\/us\/sanctuary-cities-trump-immigration.html\" title=\"\">\u201csanctuaries\u201d for undocumented immigrants,<\/a> and the raids raise the possibility of clashes with federal authorities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The Trump team, concerned that career department employees will not execute orders they deem to be immoral or unlawful, has considered taking disciplinary actions against prosecutors who refuse to comply.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The U.S. has as many as 14 million undocumented immigrants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\"><strong class=\"css-8qgvsz ebyp5n10\">Border control: <\/strong>Officials said the Pentagon would be <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2025\/01\/22\/us\/trump-news#troops-border-trump\" title=\"\">sending 1,500 troops to the U.S. border with Mexico<\/a> by the end of the month to fulfill one of Trump\u2019s main goals to stem the flow of migrants into the U.S.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-2\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<h2 class=\"css-13o6u42 eoo0vm40\" id=\"link-5dfebe3a\">Prince Harry got an apology from Murdoch\u2019s tabloids<\/h2>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Rupert Murdoch\u2019s media group <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/01\/22\/world\/europe\/prince-harry-murdoch-lawsuit.html\" title=\"\">formally apologized to Prince Harry<\/a> as part of a multimillion dollar settlement deal over a phone-hacking scandal.
