Kolkata: The parents of the RG Kar rape and murder victim claimed on Monday that they don’t want the convicted civic volunteer, Sanjoy Roy<\/a>, to face death sentence but want the other accused to get punished. The victim’s parents are of the view that just because their daughter lost her life, that does not mean that the convict will also have to lose his life, the victim’s family lawyer said.“We want those who are responsible for the crime to be punished,” the victim’s father said in Kolkata. They were present at the Calcutta High Court<\/a> when justice Debanshu Basak’s bench was hearing the admission of the West Bengal government and CBI’s appeal on death sentence for Sanjay Roy.<\/p>\n

“I have discussed the death sentence of the convicted with the victim’s parents at length several times. They have lost their daughter’s life but that does not mean that the convicted has to get death sentence. That is what they believe. They don’t want death sentence for anyone. They think the highest punishment given by a trial court is acceptable to them and it should remain intact. The other accused, whose chargesheet has not been filed by CBI, should be submitted and they should be punished,” the advocate of the victim’s parents told ET.<\/p>\n

“We have moved the Supreme Court and the matter will be heard on January 29,” the lawyer said. “We have faith in all those who give us justice. We have no one to go but CBI,” the victim’s father said. The parents have pointed out the state government’s lackadaisical attitude, expressed dissatisfaction over CBI probe and the role of police.<\/p><\/div>\n
