Artificial intelligence-powered personal computers are enabling users to run large language models (LLMs<\/a>) without the need for WiFi\/internet or cloud processing, mitigating the concerns over data privacy, said Raj Kumar Rishi, vice-president and managing director of consumer & small business at Dell Technologies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

LLM applications such as the text-to-image generator Stable Diffusion, video editing software Adobe Premiere Pro, as well as music generation tool Audacity can now run more efficiently on devices with faster processing and auto-enhancement capabilities, the company demonstrated.<\/p>\n

Dell, on Monday, unveiled its AI-enabled laptop range powered by Intel’s latest three-part core processor with a CPU, GPU and NPU (neural processing unit), widely known as the brain of newage AI<\/a> devices.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NPU can allocate data processing to the best compute engine to handle complicated AI workloads. This not only enhances speed, improves battery life but also ensures lower power consumption and heating up of the device,\u201d Rishi said.<\/p>\n

The new Dell laptop range–starting at a price of Rs 105,999 and going up to Rs 2,99,990–is targeted towards professionals, creators, gamers and students who are increasingly adopting AI applications.<\/p>\n

It will also include the Copilot key for faster assistance to the Microsoft Copilot<\/a> on PCs created to find answers, solutions, or a to-do list for everyday tasks.<\/p>\n

When asked about premium pricing of AI PCs, Rishi said the devices will continue to remain on the higher-end of the spectrum in the near future.\u201cWe are at the intersection of AI and personal computing, and it will take a while before pricing can be democratised in markets like India. But, according to predictions by IDC (International Data Corporation), nearly 60% of laptops sold worldwide will be AI-enabled by 2027,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Besides AI applications, Dell\u2019s newest AI consumer portfolio will also offer other upgrades, such as auto framing while video conferencing, and visual enhancements of images as well as noise reduction.<\/p>\n

However, experts believe PC brands will not see mass adoption in 2024 due to factors such as high pricing and limited usability of AI applications.<\/p>\n

\u201cTop PC brands will upgrade their product portfolio with AI-enabled devices this year for futureproofing themselves,\u201d said Prabhu Ram, head of industry intelligence group at Cyber Media Research. \u201cBut, I don\u2019t see any significant sell-off, simply because we are still at the cusp of AI adoption and there are no real use-cases for consumers to aspire for these products.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
