If a camera catches a commuter breaking any traffic rule, the system will also check for documentation of the vehicle and automatically issue challans if insurance or PUC have expired,&#8221; the DCP said.<\/p>\n<p>The new system came into effect on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/include_growfast.cms?pagename=article&skipcss=1potime:2--><br \/><a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/online-traffic-challans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Online traffic challans<\/a> were issued in Gurgaon since 2019, when the first set of cameras were installed. At the time, only a few stretches of the city were covered, but this network has been expanded to 10,000 CCTV cameras currently.&#8221;A significant portion of this network is dedicated to monitoring traffic and issuing challans, including <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/ai-equipped-cameras\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI-equipped cameras<\/a> at key junctions, highways and expressways to detect violations such as helmet and seatbelt non-compliance,&#8221; a police officer said.Last year, Gurgaon police issued 13.6 lakh challans, amounting to penalties of Rs 15.1 crore, for traffic violations.
