{"id":22771,"date":"2024-04-10T03:52:45","date_gmt":"2024-04-10T03:52:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.talkwithrattan.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/10\/over-half-of-appeals-against-home-office-asylum-decisions-are-successful-as-sex-offender-allowed-to-stay\/"},"modified":"2024-04-10T03:52:45","modified_gmt":"2024-04-10T03:52:45","slug":"over-half-of-appeals-against-home-office-asylum-decisions-are-successful-as-sex-offender-allowed-to-stay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.talkwithrattan.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/10\/over-half-of-appeals-against-home-office-asylum-decisions-are-successful-as-sex-offender-allowed-to-stay\/","title":{"rendered":"Over half of appeals against Home Office asylum decisions are successful &#8211; as sex offender allowed to stay"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align:center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/e3.365dm.com\/24\/04\/768x432\/skynews-asylum-seekers-sex-offender_6515421.jpg?20240409074551&amp;fit=768,432&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"Over half of appeals against Home Office asylum decisions are successful &#8211; as sex offender allowed to stay\" title=\"Over half of appeals against Home Office asylum decisions are successful &#8211; as sex offender allowed to stay\" \/><\/div><p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component-name=\"sdc-article-body\" data-highlight-intro=\"true\">\n<p>Home Office asylum decisions are being overturned by more than half of applicants, as Sky News reveals a convicted sex offender was awarded refugee status after a judge ruled he would be at risk of &#8220;mob violence&#8221; in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>The man, who was convicted of &#8220;outraging public decency and exposure&#8221; in 2017, was placed on the Sex Offenders\u2019 Register but was given permission to remain in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The evidence of several doctors at his asylum appeal hearings stated that he &#8220;continues to act inappropriately towards females&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2020, an immigration tribunal judge agreed with lawyers that his &#8220;risky behaviours&#8221; would expose him to &#8220;ill-treatment&#8221; in Afghanistan and awarded him refugee status.<\/p>\n<p>Immigration tribunal courts, where judges can overturn the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/home-office-9607\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Home Office<\/a><\/strong>, have ruled in favour of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/home-office-9607\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asylum<\/a> <\/strong>seekers 51% of the time since 2021.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-article-widget sdc-article-image\">\n<figure class=\"sdc-article-image__figure\">\n<div class=\"sdc-article-image__wrapper\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"ui-media-caption\">\n        <span class=\"u-hide-visually\">Image:<\/span><br \/>\n        <span class=\"ui-media-caption__caption-text\">Sky News reveals that in June 2020 a convicted sex offender was awarded refugee status<br \/>\n        <\/span><br \/>\n      <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>And the majority of those who are unsuccessful do not return home, staying in Britain illegally.<\/p>\n<p>On average, over \u00a334m of legal aid per year has been spent on asylum cases since 2017, according to figures from the Ministry of Justice.<\/p>\n<p>Sakhile, 47, claimed asylum in Britain 18 years ago after arriving from Zimbabwe, where she says her political views put her at risk of persecution. she says.<\/p>\n<p>Analysis of Home Office data by the Migration Observatory shows almost two-thirds, or 55,273 people, who were refused asylum were not recorded as having left the UK in the decade from 2011.<\/p>\n<p>That figure &#8211;
