In a bid to accelerate economic growth and foster inclusive development, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman<\/a> unveiled the government’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year and her record eighth consecutive Budget.The Finance Minister highlighted a comprehensive strategy aimed at revitalizing the economy post-pandemic. <\/p>\n

The budget is poised to leverage private sector investments, uplift household sentiments, and enhance consumer spending, particularly in light of India’s burgeoning middle class, she said.<\/p>\n

During her budget speech<\/a>, Sitharaman emphasized the government’s commitment to creating an environment conducive to growth. “This budget continues our government’s efforts to accelerate growth,” she said.<\/p>\n

The Finance Minister’s address painted a picture of optimism as she laid out plans to unlock the nation’s potential. “Together we embark on a journey to unlock our nation’s tremendous potential for greater prosperity and global positioning under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” she said.Before beginning to layout measures, she quoted Telugu poet Gurzada Apparao and read a line from his poem, “A country is not just its soil, a country is its people.” She said that the meaning of these lines stand in line with aim of encompassing zero poverty. With this philosophy, the government’s vision for Viksit Bharat (Developed India) includes: Eradicating poverty; Ensuring 100% quality education for children; Providing affordable and comprehensive healthcare; Developing a skilled workforce with meaningful employment; Increasing women’s participation in the economy to 70 per cent; Strengthening India’s agricultural sector to make it the “food basket of the world.”In this budget, the proposed measures span across ten broad areas, Sitharaman said, adding that focus will be on ‘Garib (poor), Youth, Anna Daata (farmers) and Nari (women). <\/p>\n

“This budget aims to initiate transformative reforms across 6 domains during the first five years, this will augment our growth potential and global competitiveness. The domains are: Taxation, power sector, urban development, mining, financial sector and regulatory reforms,” Sitharaman said.<\/p>\n

The Finance Minister expressed confidence in India’s strong economic foundation while acknowledging ongoing geopolitical challenges that could slow global economic growth. She further said that the government’s development policies and structural reforms over the past decade have positioned India as the world’s fastest-growing major economy. <\/p>\n

This has strengthened global confidence in India’s potential, making the next five years crucial for achieving holistic development, she said.
