The stylish southpaw was named Player of the Tournament after scoring 363 runs in five matches at an astonishing average of 90.75, including two centuries and a fifty. A veteran of 167 ODIs, 34 Tests, and 68 T20Is, Dhawan spoke exclusively to TimesofIndia.com about India’s squad for 2025 edition of the multi-nation tournament, their title chances, the form of Rohit Sharma<\/a> and Virat Kohli<\/a>, and much more. The 2013 Champions Trophy win was one of those unforgettable moments\u2014not just for me, but for the entire team and the whole nation. Lifting that trophy after such a long and hard-fought journey was truly special. The sense of accomplishment and pride we felt was incredible, and the celebrations afterward were filled with so much joy. But what made it even more memorable was the immense support we received from our fans. That\u2019s something I\u2019ll always treasure.<\/p>\n

Any special moments with your teammates that stand out?<\/span>
Lifting the trophy with my teammates after such an intense tournament is one of those moments I\u2019ll cherish for the rest of my life. Honestly, it doesn\u2019t get better than that! Another memory I\u2019ll never forget is Virat\u2019s Gangnam Style dance after the win\u2014it was hilarious and had all of us laughing. I also scored a century in my comeback match against South Africa and another one against the West Indies. But what stands out the most to me is the time spent in the dressing room with the team\u2014those moments of fun, discussions, and team spirit were truly special. I miss them and will keep them in my heart forever.
How do you assess the current squad under Rohit Sharma\u2019s captaincy?<\/span>
India\u2019s current squad is incredibly strong and well-balanced. We have experienced players like Rohit, Virat, and Bumrah, while young talents like Arsh and Yashasvi are coming through. Our batting depth is rock solid, and the form of our pacers has been impressive. We\u2019ve been consistent across all formats, and I truly believe we have the potential to win any tournament we play in.
Rohit and Virat\u2019s recent form has raised concerns. Do you see it as a major issue?<\/span>
Virat and Rohit are both world-class players. They\u2019re legends of the game at this point in their careers, and I have complete confidence in their abilities. Every player goes through rough patches, but that doesn\u2019t define them. A couple of bad performances here and there won\u2019t change what they\u2019re capable of. We all know what Rohit and Virat can do\u2014they\u2019ve proven it time and again. I have no doubt they\u2019ll bounce back stronger and continue to deliver for the team.<\/p>\n

Yashasvi Jaiswal<\/a>\u2019s selection has been a hot topic. What are your thoughts on his inclusion?<\/span>
Yashasvi is an exciting young talent. I\u2019ve seen him play, and he\u2019s been impressive in all formats. His ability to open the batting is a great asset, as it creates a tricky combination for bowlers\u2014especially when paired with a batsman like Rohit. It\u2019s a fantastic opportunity for him to showcase his skills at the highest level, and I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll make the most of it. He\u2019s definitely one to watch for the future.
Do you believe Mohammed Siraj and <\/span>Suryakumar Yadav<\/a> should have made the squad?<\/span>
Selections are based on various factors, and it\u2019s great to see Mohd. Shami making his comeback to the ODI squad after his injury. His experience and skill will definitely add strength to the team. Siraj has been in outstanding form, and his pace and aggression make him a key player for us. He\u2019s been very consistent and a real asset to the team. As for Suryakumar, his batting is a huge plus, especially with his ability to play in different positions and adapt to any situation. But I\u2019m confident both Siraj and SKY will get their opportunities soon, and when they do, they\u2019ll make an impact.
The <\/span>India vs Pakistan<\/span> clash on February 23 is highly anticipated. What are your thoughts on this marquee clash?<\/span>
The India vs Pakistan rivalry is always special. There\u2019s a unique intensity to these games\u2014so much energy, so many emotions\u2014it\u2019s a rivalry like no other. Representing India and playing against Pakistan is an absolute honour, and the atmosphere on the field is unlike anything I\u2019ve experienced. Every moment feels bigger because of the rivalry, and it\u2019s one of those matches that every player looks forward to with great excitement. I am sure India will come up with flying colours.<\/div>\n
