It said one person had been killed in the explosion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The Russian media reports said that Mr. Sarkisyan had been taken to the hospital with injuries and had died there, and that his bodyguard had died at the scene.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The agency did not name any suspects. It was also not immediately clear if Mr. Sarkisyan had been a resident of the complex.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ukrainian officials have not yet commented on the blast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The explosion inside a building in an upscale neighborhood appeared to be another significant attack in Moscow, where a Russian general was killed in December by a <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/12\/17\/world\/europe\/russian-general-bombing-moscow.html\" title=\"\">bomb planted on a scooter<\/a> in an assassination Ukraine claimed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The general, Igor Kirillov, was in charge of the Russian military\u2019s nuclear and chemical weapons protection forces. His assistant also died in the attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Mr. Sarkisyan was wanted in Ukraine on accusations of plotting killings and hiring thugs to harass antigovernment activists during protests in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, in 2014.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">He later supported Russia\u2019s invasion of eastern Ukraine in 2014 and most recently founded a battalion fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-2\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ivan Prikhodko, the mayor of the Russian-controlled town of Horlivka in eastern Ukraine, where Mr. Sarkisyan was originally from, referred in <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/Ivan_Sergeevich_Prikhodko\/4276\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">a Telegram post<\/a> to the leader\u2019s death, without providing details. He hailed Mr. Sarkisyan\u2019s Arbat battalion for playing a \u201ccrucial role in ensuring security\u201d in areas of Ukraine\u2019s Donetsk region that Russia had captured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Footage <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/tass.ru\/proisshestviya\/23042907\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">posted by Tass<\/a>, a state-owned news agency, and other Russian media outlets from the scene of the explosion showed the glass doors of the entryway mangled and smashed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Russian officials did not immediately say how an explosive was planted and detonated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Dmitri S.
