The union cabinet on Friday approved the Rs 8800 crore Skill India Programme for 2022-23 to 2025-26, paving the way for industry-aligned skills training across the country.In another decision, the Cabinet gave its ex-post facto approval to reorganise railway zones and divisions structure in Andhra Pradesh. This move will lead to speedier approvals for railway projects<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The revamped Skill India Programme, which is central sector scheme, will now include three key components, the Rs 6000 crore Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana<\/a> 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0), the Rs 1942 crore Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS), and the Rs 858 crore Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) scheme.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese initiatives aim to provide structured skill development<\/a>, on-the-job training, and community-based learning, ensuring that both urban and rural populations, including marginalized communities, have access to high-quality vocational education<\/a>,\u201d the government said in a statement issued after the Cabinet briefing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis decision underscores the government\u2019s commitment to building a skilled, future-ready workforce by integrating demand-driven, technology-enabled, and industry-aligned training across the country,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n


Under PMKVY 4.0, the ministry of skills development and entrepreneurship provides National Skills Qualification Framework<\/a> (NSQF) aligned short-term skill courses and recognition of prior learning through upskilling and reskilling for the age group 15-59 years.PM-NAPS, on the other hand, will incentivise establishments to engage apprentices by providing financial incentives as per the provisions of the Apprenticeship Act, 1961 in the age group 14-35 years, aimed at ensuring school to work transition through hands-on experience.Through JSS, the ministry imparts community-driven skills training targeting women and other vulnerable sections of the community with an aim to provide skill training at the doorsteps of the beneficiary through registered societies (Civil Society Organizations) for the age group 15-45 years. \u201cThis is aimed at fostering self-employment<\/a> and local entrepreneurship,\u201d it said. <\/p>\n

The ministry of skills development and entrepreneurship has imparted skills training to more than 22.7 million candidates since 2015 under its three flagship schemes which have now been revamped and combined under the umbrella Skills India Programme<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Announcing the Cabinet decisions, railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said a new Rayagada Railway Division under the East Coast Railway Zone will be established and the existing Waltair division will be renamed as the Visakhapatnam Railway Division, under the new South Coast Railway Zone.<\/p><\/div>\n
