It is not that government is unaware of these things, they are very well aware&#8230;,&#8221; Justice Gedela remarked, acknowledging the broader risks posed by AI.<\/p>\n<p>DeepSeek, a Chinese artificial intelligence startup, made headlines worldwide after it topped application download charts. Its latest model DeepSeek R1 rivalled technology developed by ChatGPT make OpenAI in capabilities, costing much less to create.<\/p>\n<p>One advocate, Bhavna Sharma, has moved the HC alleging that DeepSeek platform infringed Right to Privacy enshrined under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution and posed instant and emergent threats that were prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, the data security of the State and public order.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/include_growfast.cms?pagename=article&skipcss=1potime:3--><br \/>Citing ban on DeepSeek by various countries for its violation of privacy law, the petition filed through counsel Nihit Dalmia sought a direction to the government to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to block access to DeepSeek in all forms \u2013 Apps, Chat, and Platform &#8211; for public access in India, including government entities.\u201cThe primary concern lies around the inappropriate and unlawful operations of DeepSeek, an <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/ai-chatbot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI chatbot<\/a> developed by Chinese entities \u2026 that is providing its services free of cost in India and is available for download from Google LLC and Apple India\u2019s play stores on mobile as they host DeepSeek on their play stores,\u201d the petition stated.It further stated that the DeepSeek\u2019s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy also fails to comply with the key provisions of the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, and Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 particularly regarding data collection, disclosure, security, and user consent and obtaining free informed consent which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, that demands emergency measures.<\/p>\n<p>Even the Finance Ministry had even internally issued directions to its departments against using artificial intelligent tools like as DeepSeek and ChatGPT in office computers and devices as they pose risks to the confidentiality of government data and documents, Sharma stated.<\/p>\n<p>The HC has posted the matter for further hearing on February 20.<br \/><!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&pos=botpotime:1--><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/india\/delhi-hc-seeks-centres-response-on-plea-to-block-chinese-ai-chatbot-deepseek-over-privacy-concerns\/articleshow\/118182596.cms\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought response from the Centre on a petition seeking blocking of access to Chinese artificial intelligence chatbot DeepSeek over alleged conerns of data privacy violations.
