The announcement comes as rival cloud operators like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure have already incorporated Arm-based chips into their computing services to leverage booming AI opportunities.

What are Arm-based CPUs and why are they popular among cloud providers?
Arm-based CPUs are a type of CPU design utilising a reduced instruction set computing (RISC) architecture. Cloud providers use these chips widely due to their energy efficiency, scalability, and ability to customise them to specific workloads and applications.

What is Google’s strategy with Axion?
Google intends to scale its existing services like Google Earth Engine and YouTube Ads platform on Axion.
