Brazilian authorities have said they are “visiting locations to find and clarify what happened” to missing British journalist Charlotte Peet.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old has not contacted family or friends in more than 10 days.<\/p>\n

Police in Brazil have sent the case to authorities in Sao Paulo, where she last made contact on 8 February. She had told a friend she was in the city but was planning to visit Rio de Janeiro<\/strong><\/a> and had asked about accommodation there.<\/p>\n

Several days later, Ms Peet’s family contacted the friend to say they had lost contact, with her mother then reporting the journalist missing.<\/p>\n

Ms Peet’s father told Sky News<\/a><\/strong> that she flew to Brazil without telling her family, saying: “I wouldn’t say that was normal.<\/p>\n

“There was something on her mind obviously otherwise she would have let us know,” Derek Peet said.<\/p>\n

He said she was traced to Gatwick Airport and was found to have boarded a plane to Sao Paulo before the trail went cold.<\/p>\n

“It’s very worrying but I don’t have any more to say. I’m very concerned but I just don’t know what’s going on, we’re just trying to pick up the pieces really.”<\/p>\n

The Peet family has provided information about her flight to Brazil and a photo of her passport to help with the search.<\/p>\n

Ms Peet had worked as a freelance foreign correspondent in Brazil for almost two years and returned to the country in November.<\/p>\n

Her LinkedIn profile says she has worked for the broadcaster Al Jazeera<\/strong><\/a> and The Times newspaper.<\/p>\n

The ACIE, the association of foreign press correspondents in Brazil, has issued a statement expressing concern about her disappearance, and sympathy for her family and friends.<\/p>\n

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has been reported as missing in Brazil and are in contact with the local authorities.”<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
