Guwahati<\/a>: After Assam Police<\/a> formed an SIT to investigate a case registered with Assam CID against a Pakistani national Ali Taqueer Seikh<\/a> who works with a climate action group \u2013 CDKN, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma<\/a> said government SIT has found that Seikh has come to India 18 times and SIT has got some initial leads which might lead to facts which will be starting, huge and fatal.Pakistani national Ali Taqueer Sheikh is accused of anti-India activities<\/a>, and it is alleged that Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi<\/a>‘s wife Elizabeth Colburn<\/a> worked closely with Seikh.<\/p>\n

Sarma in the state assembly on Thursday said, \u201cAli Taqueer Seikh\u2019s all interest about Assam and India’s politics. We have formed SIT and SIT has found that sheikh has come to India 18 times.We will soon find out who brings him to India where he goes.Initial investigation we have found very startling facts. The impact on Assam politics will be huge. At some time, we have to transfer this case to NIA\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cI promise to the Assam assembly that we will break the Ali Taqueer Sheikh network , we will come back to assembly in August, we will reveal facts about the consequences that will be huge, the facts will be fatal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) is considering legal action against those alleging that Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi and his wife have links to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).<\/p>\n


Gogoi had stated that the APCC had reached out to the legal team of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) regarding the issue. \u201cWe have already discussed the matter with AICC\u2019s legal team, and we will take the next steps forward\u201d.The Assam Police on Monday lodged a first information report (FIR) against Pakistani national Ali Tauqueer Sheikh and unknown others for alleged anti-India activities after the state Cabinet led by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday directed police to lodge a case against him and to find whether his alleged association with Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi\u2019s wife, Elizabeth Clare Gogoi, a British national, had any implications on the nation\u2019s security and sovereignty.The Assam Cabinet notes that the State of Assam has historically remained a hotspot for ISl sponsored activities, necessitating heightened vigilance and decisive action.<\/p>\n

The state government added following a scrutiny of his social media activity and information available in the public domain, it appears that Ali Sheikh has been in contact with Elizabeth Gogoi a British national and the wife of Member of Parliament from Assam, Gaurav Gogoi. Apart from his engagements with the Government of Pakistan, Ali Sheikh has also founded LEAD Pakistan<\/a> a non-profit organisation working in the field of climate change. Elizabeth Gogoi, a British national, was an integral part of LEAD Pakistan during her time spent in Islamabad. Both Ali Sheikh and Elizabeth Gogoi have been a part of global climate action group called the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) which operates in both India and Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Gogoi had added, \u201cAt first, he (Chief Minister) made me a villain, and after tomorrow\u2019s cabinet discussion, he made me a victim,\u201d said Gogoi.<\/p>\n

The MP from Jorhat said, \u201cif an investigation were to be conducted, the authorities were free to proceed, adding that the Congress party stood firm in its position and was confident of its stance. It is only natural for the Chief Minister to be afraid, as elections in Assam are just 12 months away.”<\/p>\n

The chief minister pointed that Justice (retd) BK Sharma Commission while probing into the irregularities in the Assam Public Service Commission’s (APSC) Combined Competitive Examinations stated that former chairman Rakesh Paul was associated in 200 selections and the kind of conduct on his part in conducting exam leaves no manner of doubt that Paul was associated with the illegalities not only in respect of the said two examinations, but also in other examinations.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cCongress people insisted that the report should be tabled, and I had to do it. Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi is no more, and I never wanted people to remember him associating him with corruption in APSC.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gaurav is the son of Tarun Gogoi. He said, \u201cIn the report it has come in Gaurav\u2019s marriage gifts of gold were made by Rakesh Paul. However, in his election affidavit in 2014 Gaurav has made no disclosure of Gold.\u201d
