The Uttar Pradesh Police<\/a> Special Investigation Team (SIT) has taken a major step in its probe into the Sambhal violence. On Thursday, officials submitted chargesheets spanning over 4,400 pages in six cases related to the unrest. The documents were presented before Chief Judicial Magistrate Archana Singh.According to police, the chargesheets name 79 accused, all currently in jail, and invoke multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further chargesheets will be filed as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n

Alleged Mastermind: Shariq Satha\u2019s Role<\/h2>\n

Investigators believe that Shariq Satha, a native of Sambhal now suspected to be in the UAE, orchestrated the violence. Police say Satha has links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim<\/a> and Pakistan\u2019s intelligence agency, the ISI. Officers revealed that before leaving India, Satha ran a large car theft racket, stealing over 300 vehicles from Delhi-NCR.<\/p>\n

He allegedly fled the country using a fake passport. “Satha\u2019s involvement came to light during the investigation, and based on evidence recovered by us, we can say that he orchestrated the violence. Chargesheets include members of Satha\u2019s gang. This is the first lot of chargesheets, and we will file a supplementary chargesheet as the investigation progresses,” said Sambhal SP Krishan Kumar Bishnoi.<\/p>\n

Foreign Links and Suspicious Transactions<\/h2>\n

The investigation has also uncovered financial transactions raising concerns of external influence. Officials have traced “unusual money transfers to account holders in Sambhal.” Alongside this, officers recovered “foreign-made cartridges” at sites affected by the violence, including bullets manufactured in Pakistan and the United States.

The findings indicate possible foreign links. Police believe Satha\u2019s associates were responsible for the gunfire that killed four of the five victims. However, no First Information Report (FIR) was filed regarding the fifth death.<\/p>\n

Political Links Under Scrutiny<\/h2>\n

The investigation has also cast a spotlight on local political connections. A chargesheet is expected to be filed against Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq<\/a> and Suhail Iqbal, son of local MLA Iqbal Mahmood. A senior officer, speaking anonymously, said, “Satha has good political connections in Sambhal and neighbouring districts. We are scanning the role of all the suspects named in the FIR, and a chargesheet will be submitted in that case after the investigation is completed.”<\/p>\n

What Led to the Clashes?<\/h2>\n

The violence erupted on 24 November during a court-mandated Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) inspection of the Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid. The situation quickly spiralled out of control, leading to violent clashes. Five people lost their lives, while 29 police personnel and several others sustained injuries.<\/p>\n

Police registered seven FIRs in connection with the violence. Additionally, the families of the deceased lodged four more FIRs against unidentified individuals. Another complaint was filed by an injured person against unknown suspects of Turkic descent.<\/p>\n

Mass Arrests and Ongoing Probe<\/h2>\n

The SIT is currently investigating all 12 FIRs linked to the incident. In addition to the 79 accused named in the chargesheets, police have identified 37 individuals directly linked to the case. A staggering 3,750 unidentified persons have also been accused, highlighting the scale of the investigation.<\/p>\n

Authorities continue to probe potential international funding and logistical support behind the violence. Police say more arrests and chargesheets will follow as the case unfolds.
