Empowering women in the workforce and reaping the demographic dividend for youth empowerment<\/a> are the focus areas of the government, labour and employment minister Mansukh Mandaviya<\/a> said. \u201cIndia\u2019s Union Budget 2025-26 sets an ambitious target of achieving 70% female workforce participation<\/a> by 2047,\u201d Mandaviya said while speaking at the first-ever regional dialogue under ILO\u2019s Global Coalition for Social Justice<\/a>, hosted by India in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Employers\u2019 Federation of India (EFI) and the Employees\u2019 State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis aligns with the objectives of today\u2019s session on promoting inclusion and women\u2019s participation in the world of work which will explore policies to create fair and supportive workplaces, address pay gaps, and enhance leadership representation for women,\u201d Mandaviya said. <\/p>\n

According to Mandaviya, reaping the demographic dividend for youth empowerment is equally vital. \u201cWith 65% of India\u2019s population under the age of 35, skill development<\/a> is a national priority,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Mandaviya reiterated that with targeted interventions of the government, the employability of Indian graduates has risen from 33.95% in 2013 to 54.81% in 2024. Besides, India has signed bilateral agreements with countries like Australia, Germany, Japan, and the UK to facilitate international mobility of skilled Indians<\/a>.<\/p>\n


The Global Coalition for Social Justice, a global movement with over 336 partners, including 90 governments, aims to bridge social justice deficits through multi-stakeholder collaboration.Appreciating India\u2019s lead in organizing the regional meet, ILO director general Gilbert F. Houngbo said it sends a strong message to both trading partners and employers on India\u2019s focus on labour welfare.\u201cAccording to the World Social Protection Report by ILO, the proportion of India\u2019s population under at least one benefit of social protection has increased from 24% to 49%, doubling in a very short time,\u201d Houngbo said, adding this achievement reflects the government\u2019s decisive actions in ensuring greater resilience and security for its people.<\/p>\n

Bilateral meeting<\/h2>\n

Labour and employment minister Mansukh Mandaviya also held a bilateral meeting with ILO director general Gilbert F. Houngbo on the side-lines of the two-day regional dialogue on social justice being held in New Delhi, aimed at strengthening the partnership between India and the ILO with a focus on advancing social justice, decent work, and inclusive economic growth.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this context, both leaders agreed to strengthen India\u2019s role in the ILO as a powerful voice for developing economies and a key advocate for global labour welfare,\u201d the labour and employment ministry said in a statement issued after the meeting. <\/p>\n

\u201cBoth the leaders also agreed on the need for a robust and collaborative data pooling exercise to enhance accuracy in social protection coverage assessments in the country,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
