But he described the blaze as \u201cextensive.\u201d He said there was no threat to the downtown area as of Wednesday morning, but noted that could change depending on the wind and other factors throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Trails in Table Mountain National Park, a popular hiking spot for residents and tourists, were closed after the fire began earlier this week. As of Monday, the fire had burned through at least 148 acres of land, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/100071810645460\/posts\/pfbid0iKazmaKw7qUxFtD6p8iaPjV9Zpqx81Ph2kD6h4N1Xx2TZAad5QM4eFnXXqToQkMMl\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">according<\/a> to a body responsible for managing the national park, which said on Monday that it was concerned about \u201cthe continued presence of hikers in areas that have been closed off.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">A second fire, in the Red Hill region of the park, was also burning on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">No evacuations had been ordered, Mr. Bosch said. Two helicopters had been water-bombing the fire since sunrise on Wednesday, he said, and a third helicopter was on its way from the nearby town of Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIf the conditions are favorable today, then it should be under control by today,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Park officials said that more than 80 firefighters from various agencies had been dispatched to combat the fire. Operators of a cable car running from Table Mountain to the central district said in a <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DGhncNqsJdq\/?hl=en\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">social media post<\/a> on Wednesday that it would close until further notice because of smoke from the wildfires.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\"><a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/04\/19\/world\/africa\/cape-town-table-mountain-fire.html\" title=\"\">Several major mountain fires<\/a> have burned in the Western Cape province in recent years. Residents of Cape Town, who live close to the mountain\u2019s foothills, are especially concerned.
