The Vatican said Francis was cooperating \u201cwith therapeutic maneuvers,\u201d and was in \u201cgood spirits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The pope was admitted to the hospital with bronchitis and later, pneumonia was diagnosed. He had a respiratory crisis last Saturday that he appeared to have overcome, and medical bulletins in recent days were cautiously upbeat, though doctors had said he was not out of danger. In recent days doctors had said that Francis was no longer in \u201ccritical condition,\u201d but that his situation was \u201ccomplex.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIt\u2019s a setback,\u201d Austen Ivereigh, Pope Francis\u2019 biographer, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/austeni\/status\/1895545714329207095\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">wrote on X<\/a>, adding \u201cI was getting too confident.
