The Delhi Public Works Department<\/a> (PWD) has approved the transfer of a 13.2 km stretch of the Delhi-Rohtak Road<\/a> (NH-10), from Peeragarhi Chowk to Tikri Border, to the National Highways Authority of India<\/a> (NHAI<\/a>).<\/p>\n

This decision, endorsed in principle by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, is expected to facilitate the development of the road into a world-class highway<\/a>, significantly enhancing connectivity between Delhi and Haryana.<\/p>\n

PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, who approved and forwarded the proposal to NHAI, emphasized the importance of the project in improving traffic flow and road conditions. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis step is aimed at ensuring the development of the stretch as per national highway standards, thus improving the traffic flow while creating better road conditions and enhanced connectivity for thousands of daily travellers between Delhi and Haryana,\u201d Verma said.<\/p>\n

The stretch, which connects Tikri Border to Nangloi metro station and merges with the Ring Road, is a crucial corridor used by lakhs of motorists daily. <\/p>\n


The road, often plagued by water overflow issues, has been damaged over time, causing considerable inconvenience for commuters. The proposed upgrades, including improved drainage systems, are expected to ease traffic congestion and offer relief to those travelling between Delhi and Haryana.The new drainage system will be a key component of the upgrades. An internal study found that the existing drains on the stretch are only 1 to 1.5 meters wide. In contrast, the new drainage system will have a width of up to 3 meters, which will help address flooding issues and improve road durability. This upgrade will also benefit surrounding areas such as Nangloi, Mundka, Ghevra, and Tikri.<\/p>\n

“Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and with the in-principle approval of Gadkariji, I approved and forwarded the proposal to NHAI for the transfer of the 13.2 km of the Delhi-Rohtak Road (NH-10) from Peeragarhi Chowk to Tikri Border for its much-needed upgrade,” said Verma.<\/p>\n

Verma said that the project is aligned with the central government’s vision of expanding and integrating road networks across states, ensuring seamless travel, and boosting economic growth. <\/p>\n

The transfer of national highways within Delhi to NHAI is part of a larger infrastructure development<\/a> strategy to improve road maintenance, expedite project execution, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the capital\u2019s highway network. An official mentioned that the initiative would help reduce travel time, enhance road quality, and strengthen India\u2019s highway network.<\/p>\n

The road from Kirari Suleman Drain near Nangloi metro station to Hiran Kudna Drain is currently in poor condition, primarily due to the irregular growth of residential colonies and semi-commercial and industrial areas along both sides. <\/p>\n

This deterioration had been identified as part of the previous state government\u2019s “pothole-free city plan,” but the project had not been executed.<\/p>\n

The planned reconstruction and upgrades are set to transform this crucial stretch into a smoother, more efficient route, further bolstering Delhi\u2019s connectivity and supporting the city\u2019s broader infrastructural goals.
