Gran Canaria’s airport has reopened after flash flooding meant planes were unable to take off and land.<\/p>\n

Torrential downpours across the island caused widespread disruption – with dramatic footage showing cars being washed off shore.<\/p>\n

The town of Telde was particularly hit by the stormy conditions, and several people needed to be rescued from their vehicles.<\/p>\n

Spain’s meteorological agency has warned dozens of amber and yellow alerts for heavy rain remain in place elsewhere in the country.<\/p>\n

Some parts of Valencia could see 100mm of rainfall in just 12 hours – and a total of more than 400mm between Monday and Thursday this week.<\/p>\n

Officials in the hardest-hit areas asked motorists to avoid driving unless “strictly necessary” – and to take extreme caution near riverbeds and ravines.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, two French nationals trapped inside their caravan with their dogs needed to be rescued from a beach in Almeria.<\/p>\n

They were showing signs of hypothermia and disorientation, and were rushed to hospital.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
