policies during a visit to Scotland.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Richard Tice said eco-policies such as targets to achieve net zero were destroying jobs in the oil and gas sector.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">The politician is in Scotland to announce a further two councillors have defected to join his party.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">He said Reform UK was growing in popularity because their &#8220;policies will make people better off&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-18fde0d6-0 dlWCEZ\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Speaking on the BBC&#8217;s <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b0074hf7\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 beIoQm\" rel=\"noopener\">Good Morning Scotland<!-- --><\/a> programme, Tice said the party was picking up support due to its &#8220;common sense&#8221; approach.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">He said: &#8220;The reason we are going up in the polls is because our policies are the policies that will make people better off.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">&#8220;For example scrapping &#8216;net stupid zero&#8217; that is destroying tens and tens of thousands of great, highly skilled, well-paid Scottish jobs in the oil and gas industry, in the chemicals industry.&#8221;<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">He added: &#8220;We are the new kids on the block, we&#8217;ve got some bold policies that can turn around the Scottish economy.&#8221;<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">He said Scotland would &#8220;benefit most of all&#8221; from scrapping green targets, which he claimed were &#8220;so destructive to jobs and skills&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">The deputy leader previously argued net-zero policies were to blame for higher energy bills and deindustrialisation in the UK.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">In February, he announced that <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cn93w44yv74o\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 beIoQm\" rel=\"noopener\">Reform UK plans to tax solar farms<!-- --><\/a>, and pass new laws to put energy cables underground rather than on pylons.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Despite <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-scotland-68847434\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 beIoQm\" rel=\"noopener\">scrapping certain climate change targets last year<!-- --><\/a>, the Scottish government still aims to achieve net zero emissions of all greenhouse gases by 2045.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">This is five years ahead of the UK&#8217;s target of 2050.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"sc-518485e5-0 DkKTF\">Councillor defections<!-- --><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-18fde0d6-0 dlWCEZ\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Tice was speaking during a visit to Scotland to announce two more councillors have defected to his party from the Scottish Conservative party.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">They are John Gray from Renfrewshire Council and Ross Lambie from South Lanarkshire Council.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">He said he was &#8220;very proud&#8221; The man to his right is wearing a navy jacket and a navy tie.\" class=\"sc-a34861b-0 efFcac\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><figcaption class=\"sc-8353772e-0 iUqqeb\">Two more councillors have defected to Reform UK<!-- --><\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-18fde0d6-0 dlWCEZ\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">A Scottish Conservative spokesperson said the party is &#8220;focussed on reaching out to voters who are disillusioned with all parties and all politicians&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Five former Scottish Conservative councillors have already defected to Reform &#8211; <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cy48p5132qno\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 beIoQm\" rel=\"noopener\">one in Glasgow<!-- --><\/a>,  two in Aberdeenshire and two in North Ayrshire.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Tice, the MP for Boston and Skegness, said: &#8220;We&#8217;re going up in the polls, I think you&#8217;re going to see us by the summer around 20%.&#8221;<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">He also claimed that Reform &#8220;almost&#8221; have more members in Scotland than the Labour Party. In 2021, Labour had about 16,000 members in Scotland.
