Attorney General of India, R. Venkataramani, has said that the unique struggles faced by women, are shaped by both economic barriers and socially constructed expectations, during his address at a special event to mark International Women’s Day<\/a> in New Delhi on Saturday. <\/p>\n

He emphasised that multitasking, often seen as an inherent trait of women, is likely a role imposed by society, calling for solutions that stem from societal reform. <\/p>\n

“The remarkable women who shaped our Constitution proved that true leadership is built on compassion, humanism, and care\u2014not just power or wealth,” Venkataramani said.<\/p>\n

The event, organised by the Society of Indian Law Firms<\/a> (SILF) and the SILF Ladies Group (SLG), celebrated International Women\u2019s Day by honouring the contributions of the founding mothers of the Indian Constitution<\/a>. It also recognized the efforts of contemporary women leaders across various fields. <\/p>\n

Venkataramani stressed the importance of gender inclusion<\/a> in legal frameworks, noting that “if more women actively participate in shaping legal policies, our justice system will become more progressive and equitable.”<\/p>\n


Chief Guest R. Venkataramani was joined by Guest of Honour, Archana Pathak Dave, Additional Solicitor General of India, who underscored that the celebration of women\u2019s achievements should not be limited to just one day a year. “Women\u2019s Day is not just about March 8; it is a commitment we must uphold every day,” said Dave. She also recognized the significant role played by Indian women in the Constitution, noting that unlike many other nations, India\u2019s Constituent Assembly included 15 pioneering women, including figures like Sarojini Naidu, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, and Vijayalakshmi Pandit.<\/p>\n

“Women are themselves the source of power\u2014Shakti. They empower all sections of society,” said Dr. Lalit Bhasin, President of SILF.<\/p>\n

The event also featured the prestigious SILF Women Excellence Awards<\/a>, which honored outstanding women professionals for their exemplary work across diverse fields like law, journalism, social work, and higher education. <\/p>\n

The awardees included Nupur Sharma, Advocate at the Supreme Court of India; Dr. Gauri D Chakraborty, Professor at Bennett University; Tejal Patil, General Counsel at Wipro; Dr. Mallika Tyagi, Associate Professor at Sri Ram College for Commerce; and Ritika Chopra, Bureau Chief at The Indian Express.<\/p>\n

The event, which brought together legal professionals, academics, and business leaders, served as a reminder of the crucial role women have played in shaping India’s legal and constitutional framework and the ongoing challenges they face.<\/p>\n

The day concluded with a reaffirmed commitment to advancing women’s contributions to law and governance, underlining their indispensable role in shaping a progressive and equitable society as India moves toward its goal of Viksit Bharat 2047<\/a>.
