India<\/a> and Russia<\/a> on Saturday celebrated the 77th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The nearly eight decades of partnership has been marked by achievements contributing to special and privileged strategic partnership.<\/p>\n

Throughout decades, this partnership encompassed several areas from defence to space to trade and investments, hydrocarbon energy and nuclear power, security and space, science and fin-tech, digitalization, infrastructure and smart-cities, education and culture.<\/p>\n

Russia remains a largest contributor to India\u2019s energy security and its defence capabilities. Currently there are efforts to a greater connectivity in the Eurasian space and are working towards an early conclusion of the FTA between the Eurasian Economic Union and India, efficient promotion of the North-South Transport Corridor and relaunching of the Vladivostok \u2013 Chennai Eastern Maritime Corridor, strengthening of the independent financial and payment mechanisms, synchronization of customs regimes, multiplication of joint ventures, expansion of tourism and humanitarian linkages.<\/p>\n

In 2024, the two countries also celebrating a number of important jubilees \u2013 the 555th anniversary of the famous travel by the Russian merchant Afanasy Nikitin to India, the 150th birth anniversary of iconic Nicholas Roerich and the 120th birth anniversary of his son Svyatoslav Roerich and the 40th anniversary of the flight of the first Indian cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma in outer space onboard of the Soviet spacecraft.<\/p>\n

The relationship is marked by trust and confidence built over decades and has remained steady notwithstanding tumultuous geo-politics. <\/p>\n

\u201cGeopolitical convergences and careful cultivation of ties over seven decades by leaders of both countries has resulted in a unique india Russia partnership that has outlived internal changes and global upheavals . It is difficult to find another parallel in contemporary international relations of such continuity over seven decades. But the challenge now is to renew the strategic partnership through new drivers of cooperation more in tune with the needs of a multipolar world in this century,\u201d India\u2019s former envoy to Russia DB Venkatesh Varma told ET. <\/div>\n
