The Delhi High Court<\/a> on Friday granted bail to realty firm Unitech<\/a>‘s founder Ramesh Chandra<\/a>, who was arrested in connection with an alleged money laundering case. <\/p>\n

Chandra was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate in October 2021 as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving the real estate group and its promoters.<\/p>\n

He was granted an eight-week interim medical bail on July 28, 2022 by the High Court which was extended from time to time.<\/p>\n

Earlier in March 2024, the Supreme Court had stayed the Delhi<\/a> High Court\u2019s order that had asked realty firm\u2019s founder Chandra to surrender before the jail superintendent immediately.<\/p>\n

Senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi and counsel Ranjeeta Rohatgi, appearing for Chandra, had argued that the 86-year old is suffering from various ailments and both his children are behind the bars.<\/p>\n

Noting that Chandra was embroiled in serious offences like duping and diverting home buyers\u2019 money to the tune of over Rs 5,000 crore, the Delhi HC<\/a> had earlier refused to further extend the interim medical bail granted to Chandra in a money laundering case.
