The Mumbai Police<\/a> on Wednesday denied stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra<\/a>\u2019s request for a week’s extension to appear before investigators regarding his remarks on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde<\/a>, ANI reported. <\/p>\n

Kamra\u2019s lawyer had submitted the appeal in person at Khar Police<\/a> Station, but the authorities declined the request. The police will now issue a second summons under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 35. <\/p>\n

Earlier, Kamra was asked to appear before the investigating officer on Tuesday after MIDC Police registered an FIR against him for comments made during a stand-up show. The case was later transferred to Khar Police for further investigation. <\/p>\n

Kamra\u2019s remarks, in which he allegedly referred to Eknath Shinde as a “gaddar” (traitor), triggered political backlash. Several leaders condemned his statement and called for legal action. On Tuesday, Kamra shared a new video mocking Shiv Sena workers for vandalizing The Habitat comedy club in Mumbai, where he had performed. <\/p>\n

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stated that the government would take action as per the law. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis<\/a>, addressing the state Assembly, criticised Kamra<\/a>\u2019s remarks, calling them “low-quality” comedy. <\/p>\n

“We appreciate humour and satire. We accept political satire<\/a>, but we do not accept freedom of expression<\/a> if it leads to tyranny,” Fadnavis said. He further alleged that Kamra seeks fame through controversy and that the public will decide whether Shinde is a traitor or not.(With inputs from ANI)<\/em>
