Kolkata: Former Barrackpore<\/a> MP and BJP leader Arjun Singh<\/a> gets interim relief from Calcutta High Court<\/a> from any coercive action against him before Wednesday\u2019s hearing at HC. <\/p>\n

Singh is facing major legal trouble over a shooting incident as the Barrackpore ACJM court issued an arrest warrant against him on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Justice Joy Sengupta\u2019s Bench in Calcutta High Court today observed that no coercive action or arrest cannot be done against him till tomorrow\u2019s hearing. Singh has appealed for bail in the court.<\/p>\n

Singh said yesterday that he has already moved Calcutta High Court. <\/p>\n

On Friday, Calcutta High Court had declined an urgent hearing on Singh’s appeal alleging police harassment. The former MP claimed that miscreants attacked his residence on the night of March 26-27. One person named Saddam Hossain was injured in the incident.<\/p>\n

Since Thursday, police have summoned Arjun Singh five times. Jagaddal police station IC had visited his house to quiz him after multiple summons to the police station to interrogate him regarding Saddam’s serious bullet injuries<\/a>.BJP Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari<\/a> has supported Singh and said he has been targeted purposefully by the ruling Trinamool Congress<\/a> and police for his active role in politics\u201cAs Singh is very active in the area, Trinamool is continuously targeting him,\u201d former BJP State President Dilip Ghosh said.<\/p>\n

Singh had won 2019 Lok Sabha polls with a BJP ticket but later crossed over to Trinamool Congress. However, he was denied tickets in Lok Sabha polls in 2024, following which he again returned to BJP. In 2022, he rejoined Trinamool Congress, but again joined BJP, quitting Trinamool in 2024 before Lok Sabha election.<\/p>\n

Prior to 2019, Singh was in Trinamool Congress. Singh had also won Bhatpara assembly seat consecutive four times since 2001 as a Trinamool Congress candidate. He has also been appointed vice-presidents of the West Bengal Unit of BJP in 2020.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
