The head of an airline advocacy group warned officials at Heathrow Airport of the threat posed by potential substation failures<\/a> days before a fire forced the shutdown of the airport last month, he told British lawmakers on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d actually warned Heathrow of concerns that we had with regard to the substations,\u201d Nigel Wicking, the chief executive of the Heathrow Airline Operators\u2019 Committee<\/a>, the advocacy group, told the parliamentary transport committee. \u201cMy concern was resilience.\u201d<\/p>\n

A fire at one of the three electrical substations that serves Heathrow, Europe\u2019s busiest airport, led to a power outage there<\/a> on March 21.<\/p>\n

The shutdown dashed holiday plans<\/a> and scrambled flights across the world<\/a>, and Mr. Wicking said that he thought that some flights could have resumed by \u201clate morning\u201d if the airport had made better use of one of its five terminals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
