Mohit Malik, who has been part of the television industry for about 20 years<\/a> with shows such as Kulfi Kumar Bajewala, Cyber War, and Chamak under his belt, recently made his Bollywood debut with the Abhishek Kapoor film Azaad. He played the role of Tej Bahadur. It took him almost two years to break through. In an exclusive conversation with SCREEN, the television star shared that it was his under-confidence in his craft that made him wait for so long to try his luck in the movies. He shared, \u201cI knew I can\u2019t do a film for the sake of it as all I will get is a single chance.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cI never had the confidence to go for films till 2016. I didn\u2019t trust my craft. After gaining confidence, I finally tried in 2017-18 for films. I used to make time in between my television shoots to audition for films. Abhishek Kapoor liked my audition, they called me. I had to give another test, and eventually things worked out. You also deal with ego after having worked for so long in a different industry and having to start from scratch in a new industry. But passion takes over ego. Till date, I go to people to ask for work. People have liked my performance in Azaad.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked about star kids who get these chances without any prior experience, Mohit said, \u201cAfter a point even they will stop getting opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

He explained, \u201cWe have to be grateful for whatever we have. They are born in such a family, they are grateful. There are some benefits that comes from that. If I too was born in a film family, I too would have had a godfather and received several opportunities. However, all this depends on how much work are you putting in your craft. You will be wasting all the chances that you are getting if you are not putting enough efforts in enhancing your craft. So even the star kids will have to put their heart and soul to be accepted. They might get five opportunities, but there won\u2019t be a sixth, if there won\u2019t be an improvement in their craft. They are born with those opportunities, but it depends on how they make use of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the same interview, he shared his experience of working with Ajay Devgn\u2019s nephew and Raveena Tandon\u2019s daughter in Azaad. He said, \u201cWhen I did film with Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani, I saw them working hard. That\u2019s all matters. I recently met them again, they are both down to earth. It all depends on how you keep and maintain yourself. It is important to stay grounded and focus on their craft.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mohit Malik is currently gearing up for the release of the second season of the Sony<\/a> LIV show, Chamak.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
