There are around 28,000 cases pending in the tribunal.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/dynamic_link.cms?msid=107107653&subsecid=1715249553&pos=toppotime:1-->Sarma said that given the integral role of the Koch Rajbongshi community in Assam&#8217;s heritage, the State Cabinet has directed the withdrawal of 28,000 cases pending against members of the community in Foreigners Tribunals. The state government has decided to withdraw these cases ongoing in the Foreigners Tribunals and of Doubtful-Voter being attached to Koch Rajbongshi people\u2019s names on an immediate basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Koch Rajbansgi has a substantial population in Lower Assam and adjoining West Bengal. <\/p>\n<p>Six communities including Koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom, Chutia, Maran, Matak and Adivasi are demanding Schedule tribe status.<\/p>\n<p>The BJP in Assam has often said that as the <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/national-register-of-citizens\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Register of Citizens<\/a> (NRC)authority refused to accept the refugee certificates issued prior to 1971, <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/bengali-hindu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bengali Hindu<\/a>, Koch Rajbonshi and Buddhist people got excluded from NRC in large numbers. <\/p>\n<div style=\"display:none;\" data-ga-impression=\"Events_widget_$pagename#Impression#url\" class=\"liveEventMain_widget custom_ad\">\n<div class=\"topContain\">\n<div class=\"imgBox\"><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"logoTitle\">Live Events<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/live_events_widget.cms?pagename=articlepotime:1--> <br \/>The final NRC list, published on August 31, 2019, had found more than 31.1 million people eligible to be included in the registry while leaving out over 1.9 million people.Sarma said that starting from the 1st day of Bohag, the State Cabinet has approved the proposal that all Government Orders and Office Memorandums<br \/>shall be issued in both Assamese and English. However, in Barak Valley, Bengali will also be used alongside English and Assamese; and in BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region), <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/bodo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bodo<\/a> will be used in addition to English and Assamese.This decision is in consonance with the recommendations of the Justice Biplab Sarma Committee.<\/p>\n<p>To bring a whole-of-government approach to flood monitoring and mitigation activities, the State Cabinet has approved the constitution of Local Embankment Monitoring and <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/flood-preparedness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flood Preparedness<\/a><br \/>Committees. These committees shall be formed at the District\/Co-District and embankment levels.<\/p>\n<p>The committees will comprise officials from the Water Resources Department and 10-15 pro bono volunteers. The volunteers shall be provided with appropriate gear such as raincoats, gum boots, and torchlights.
