Neena Gupta courted controversy when she described feminism as a \u2018faltu\u2019 concept<\/a><\/strong> and said that \u2018women need men\u2019 to progress in an earlier interview. Now, a wary Neena chose her words carefully as she addressed feminism again in a new interview. She said that she doesn\u2019t want to make controversial statements, and blamed the media for twisting her words and presenting them out of context. In an interview with Lilly Singh, she was asked if she wanted another chance to express her opinions on feminism.<\/p>\n

She said, \u201cFor me, feminism is being strong (on the inside). That is feminism for me. Me.\u201d Lilly pushed harder, and asked, \u201cWhat do you want for women today, in this country?\u201d Neena replied, \u201cWhat I want is not possible. I want them to be safe, but it\u2019s not possible. They say educate women. If you educate them, they will want to do a job, and if they do a job, they are raped\u2026 I feel it is a curse to be born a woman, especially a poor woman. The situation is so sad, I have goosebumps. How can I say optimistic things, when I know the real situation? It\u2019s a curse. What happens to women in jhuggi-jhopdis? I want a solution, but I can\u2019t think of a solution.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an appearance on Ranveer Allahbadia\u2019s podcast, Neena said, \u201cI want to say that it\u2019s not necessary to believe in \u2018faltu feminism\u2019 or the idea that \u2018women are equal to men.\u2019 Instead, focus on achieving financial independence and giving attention to your work. If you\u2019re a housewife, don\u2019t look down on it; it\u2019s an important role. Boost your self-esteem and avoid thinking of yourself as small. That\u2019s the main message I want to convey. Additionally, men and women are not equal.\u00a0The day men start getting pregnant, that day we will be equal.\u201d<\/p>\n

She had clarified her controversial comments<\/a><\/strong> in an interview with Indian Express<\/a>, saying, \u201cWhat they did is that they only used that chunk from the whole interview for promotions, to create a controversy. It said that I don\u2019t believe in \u2018faltu feminism\u2019, and after that people are fighting amongst each other. If one person is cursing me for saying that, someone else says, \u2018What do you know? Watch the whole interview\u2019. There should be a reference to what I said.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
