{"id":27662,"date":"2024-04-16T10:53:44","date_gmt":"2024-04-16T10:53:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.talkwithrattan.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/16\/fake-sexual-images-creators-could-face-prison-under-new-law-praised-by-love-island-star\/"},"modified":"2024-04-16T10:53:45","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T10:53:45","slug":"fake-sexual-images-creators-could-face-prison-under-new-law-praised-by-love-island-star","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.talkwithrattan.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/16\/fake-sexual-images-creators-could-face-prison-under-new-law-praised-by-love-island-star\/","title":{"rendered":"Fake sexual images creators could face prison under new law praised by Love Island star"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align:center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/e3.365dm.com\/24\/02\/768x432\/skynews-taylor-swift-eras-tour_6470474.jpg?20240402150232&amp;resize=768,432&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"Fake sexual images creators could face prison under new law praised by Love Island star\" title=\"Fake sexual images creators could face prison under new law praised by Love Island star\" \/><\/div><p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component-name=\"sdc-article-body\" data-highlight-intro=\"true\">\n<p>Creating fake sexual images of another person will become a criminal offence, under a new law announced on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those convicted could face prosecution and fines, and if the image is shared widely, offenders could be sent to jail.<\/p>\n<p>Even if someone creates a sexually explicit fake image, called a &#8216;deepfake&#8217;, without intending to share it, they will be committing an offence if they want to cause &#8220;alarm, humiliation or distress to the victim&#8221;, according to the Ministry of Justice.<\/p>\n<p>Cally Jane Beech, a campaigner and former <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/love-island-6821\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Love Island<\/a><\/strong> contestant, said: &#8220;This new offence is a huge step in further strengthening of the laws around deepfakes to better protect women.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Love Island star found images of herself online that had been &#8220;distorted&#8221; and a fake nude body superimposed on top.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The likeness of this image was so realistic that anyone with fresh eyes would assume this <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/artificial-intelligence-7032\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI generated image<\/a><\/strong> was real when it wasn&#8217;t, nevertheless I still felt extremely violated,&#8221; she told Glamour magazine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Too many women continue to have their privacy, dignity and identity compromised by malicious individuals in this way and it has to stop,&#8221; she said on Tuesday in response to the new law.<\/p>\n<p>Deepfakes are usually created using &#8216;generative artificial intelligence&#8217; tools. Pic: AP<br \/>\n        <\/span><br \/>\n      <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/taylor-swifts-name-not-searchable-on-x-after-sexually-explicit-fake-images-circulated-13057221\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Taylor Swift became a high-profile victim of deepfake pornography<\/a><\/strong> when the internet was flooded with fake sexual images of the singer in January, but the problem is widespread.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/channel-4-9529\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Channel 4<\/a> <\/strong>investigation in March found that hundreds of British celebrities had been victims of deepfake pornography, including the report&#8217;s presenter Cathy Newman.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t think I&#8217;d be too affected by it but actually when I watched it, the only way to describe it is that it was violating,&#8221; she told Radio 4&#8217;s Today programme on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was kind of me and not me, and yet it was incredibly invasive.
