The Communist Party of China is likely to select the next 15th Dalai Lama, which will change the entire demography of the Buddhist population living across the Himalayan region from Walong in Arunachal to Jammu and Kashmir. Tibetan children are not taking lessons in their mother tongue but are forced to learn Mandarin. “Brahmaputra, the son of Brahma, is the only male river originating from Mansarovar. China has only three major rivers, and there is a shortage of water. Tibetologists pointed out that Chinese have already started building tunnels to divert water from Yarlung Tsangpo to Yellow river.”

The Arunachal Pradesh Lok Sabha MP, “I already told in Lok Sabha that China is not building dams, but making “water bombs”. The disaster that can happen already had its first glimpse in 2000. Devastating floods caused by massive release of water washed away almost all bridges on Siang River, as Yarlung Tsangpo is known in Arunachal Pradesh. Pasighat airport was under 7 feet of water then.BJP-led NDA government is building road networks across the Himalayan state to counter the threat arising out of rapid development activities taking place on the Chinese side”.

Live Events

Gao said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about one remedy – we can also construct a dam on the Siang River in order to prevent disaster downstream in case China releases any “water bomb” in future. Experts told me the dam can have a 25-meter buffer level which will stretch up to 15 km. A huge volume of water can be retained in case of sudden release of water and prevent disaster downstream. Public opinion is being taken on the idea of building the dam. We have two options – raise our voice, but Xi Jinping will not listen; or build an alternate big dam to repulse the impact of the Chinese “water bomb”.” Author and Tibetologist Claude Arpi said China not only wants to become a power giant by building the dam in Medog county, but it also has plans to divert the water of Yarlung Tsangpo to the Yellow River through numerous tunnels. Bertil Linter, an expert on Asian politics and history, highlighted how the Chinese invasion into the Tibetan region in the late 1950s was specifically targeted on the numerous mega rivers which originate in the “Roof of the World”. “China has constructed 11 mega dams only on the Mekong River, which is the lifeline of five other countries,” he said. He also underlined the need for India to have a water-sharing agreement with China, the lack of which may lead to “bilateral conflicts” between the two neighbours.

Chairman of Brahmaputra Board, Dr Ranbir Singh pointed out that the Brahmaputra Basin is the only water-surplus river basin in India with the rest being water-deficient. “With this dam in China, are we looking at a water-deficient Brahmaputra River basin?” he wondered. She, however, mentioned that there has been no collaborative study on the issue with China.
