The matter came to light after a video surfaced showing the peon marking answer sheets, a TOI report stated.

Video sparks probe

The incident occurred at Shaheed Bhagat Singh PG College in Piparia a few months ago. It remained unnoticed until a 20-second video clip circulated on social media. The video showed a peon handling answer sheets, marking them and assigning scores. After the video was widely shared, local MLA Thakur Das Nagwanshi raised the issue in the state assembly.

Government inquiry confirms irregularities

Following the assembly complaint, the higher education department formed a committee to investigate the incident. The committee submitted its report on April 3. Based on the findings, the department suspended college principal Rakesh Kumar Verma and professor Ramghulam Patel, who was the nodal officer for answer sheet evaluation.

The probe found irregularities in the process. According to the report, guest lecturer Khusboo Pagare, who was assigned to evaluate Hindi answer sheets, did not do so herself. She submitted a written statement admitting she was unwell and got the evaluation done by someone else.

Outsourced twice, ends with peon

The committee found that Khusboo Pagare paid Rs 7,000 to college book-lifter Rakesh Kumar Mehar to get the answer sheets evaluated. Mehar then passed them to Pannalal Patharia, the college peon, and paid him Rs 5,000. Mehar kept the remaining amount. The report noted that Patharia has a postgraduate degree in English but evaluated the Hindi paper.

Live Events

Pagare, Mehar, and Patharia were dismissed from service on Wednesday.

Principal says action is politically motivated

Suspended principal Rakesh Kumar Verma denied any role in the evaluation process. He claimed he is being targeted due to local political pressure.”In the past three months, I have been removed thrice. I was working on the post as per a stay order from the high court. I have again moved high court, and I am hopeful that the hearing will be held next week,” Verma told TOI.

“All this action against me is politically motivated by local representatives who wanted to have me removed as principal. The university directly appointed a nodal officer for evaluation of answersheets. Professor Ramghulam Patel was appointed in August last year. I had no role in evaluation, nor did I receive any payment from the university for it. When there was an independently appointed officer and I had no role in evaluation, why should I be suspended? Whatever happened in the evaluation may be wrong; it is a matter of investigation, but I have no role in it,” he said.

Source link

A peon at a government college in Madhya Pradesh‘s Narmadapuram district allegedly evaluated university examination answer sheets, prompting a departmental inquiry that led to the suspension of the college principal and a professor, along with the dismissal of three other staff members.
