Chinese actress Zhao Lusi, famously known for her role in Hidden Love, made headlines a couple of days ago when photos and videos of the actress being rushed to a hospital in a wheelchair surfaced online. The visuals sparked rumours and fanmade theories around the actress\u2019 health condition. While some accused the actor\u2019s management for putting work pressure on her, others speculated a neurological condition.<\/p>\n

Amid the rumours, the actor\u2019s management, Yinhekuyu Media, issued a statement and shared they have suspended all of the actor\u2019s work commitment. They shared a statement in Chinese that read, \u201cOn the 18th, Ms. Zhao Lusi suddenly felt unwell and went to the hospital for examination and treatment immediately. She is currently following the doctor\u2019s orders for treatment and recuperation.\u201d<\/p>\n

It further read, \u201cWe will prioritise the health of Ms. Zhao Lusi and suspend all subsequent work. We also hope that everyone who cares about Lusi will give her space to rest physically and mentally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amid the health crisis, a person claiming to be her close friend, reportedly with her consent shared that Zhao had been \u201cverbally abused and physically assaulted\u201d by her company boss. The actor\u2019s weight reportedly dropped to 37 kgs.<\/p>\n

Following this, the actor\u2019s agency shared a statement on Sina Weibo. It read: \u201cWe fully accept feedback and suggestions, and we sincerely reflect on our shortcomings and apologize for them. But, we will not tolerate any baseless and malicious slander, and we sincerely apologize to those friends who have been unjustly harmed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the past few days, several videos of the actor\u2019s physical condition went viral where she can be seen walking unsteadily and failing to hold a spoon.<\/p>\n

Amid all the rumours and speculations, Zhao Lusi herself took to her official Weibo account and shared a long statement about her current situation highlighting she is suffering from depression, was abused as a child and also experienced pneumonia, emphysema, pityriasis rosea, urticaria, night sweats, and neurogenic hearing loss, among others.<\/p>\n

Expressing gratefulness for her career and the kind of support it brought to her, the actress further wrote, \u201d I support anyone\u2019s right to choose their desired career at any time because you always have the right to escape situations that bring suffering and exhaustion. You can stop anytime\u2014you are free, and you can be brave. I also understand that everyone has faced grievances and injustices. I\u2019ve heard far too many horrifying stories. When there is no help, and the abuser continues to escalate, regardless of profession, age, or gender, it is wrong. Forcing someone to reopen their wounds to prove \u201cit\u2019s not overthinking,\u201d \u201cit\u2019s not weak resilience,\u201d or \u201cit\u2019s not dissatisfaction\u201d is absurd. No one but a doctor has the right to determine the severity of someone\u2019s trauma or whether it qualifies as an illness.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress further revealed that she experienced depression in 2019. However, people asked her to not \u201coverthink\u201d or to think \u201cpositive\u201d. \u201cI also thought I was being dramatic and sensitive and didn\u2019t take my mental health seriously\u201d, wrote the actress.<\/p>\n

Sharing her experience, the actress said, \u201cIn 2021, I felt like bugs were crawling on me, like needles were pricking me, accompanied by allergies. After seeing doctors, getting medications, and receiving injections, the symptoms didn\u2019t improve. I sought out a psychologist to help ease my anxiety.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zhao\u2019s situation only got worse when in 2023 she experienced pneumonia, emphysema, pityriasis rosea, urticaria, night sweats, neurogenic hearing loss, and the loss of loved ones and cancer<\/a> diagnoses among family members.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll these events happened in a short period, overshadowing my emotions, and I continued to neglect my health.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2024, she felt frequent retching, dizziness, joint pain, neck pain, and other obvious physical symptoms along with worsening allergies, which the actress mistook as \u201cside-effects of allergy-targeted medication.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the same post, she also spoke about her childhood traumas that added up to her mental health over the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was a child, people called me a useless \u201cpretty face.\u201d During extracurricular tutoring, I was beaten in the teacher\u2019s dormitory. At the time, I thought it was right to be punished because I wasn\u2019t good at studying. I didn\u2019t dare speak out because I was taught to \u201calways find the problem within yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n

The physical abuse continued in her life when she failed to secure an acting role. \u201cI thought it was my fault, so I didn\u2019t dare make a fuss\u2014I just wanted to escape. I was used to handling my problems alone and didn\u2019t have the habit of seeking help. Later, when my work was recognized, I gained the courage to say goodbye to those who hurt me.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, when the actress stood for herself she was demanded a huge \u201cbreakup fee\u201d to stop their \u201cmanipulative behaviour.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said, \u201cCountless defamation attempts inside and outside the industry followed, with people coming to me after gossiping about me. Each time, the pain only deepened. The harm has never stopped.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the end, the actress shared the only reason she came out in open about her mental and physical struggles is to make people aware of mental healthy issues which they otherwise don\u2019t take seriously.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have never spoken about my illness before because I didn\u2019t want it to turn into so-called \u201chype.\u201d However, given the current situation, I want to share this so that more people understand: Depression is an emotion, but depression as a condition is a disease. It cannot simply be resolved by \u201cthinking positively\u201d or \u201ctalking it out.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress is currently getting her treatment done with fans praying for her quick recovery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
