Israel has said the strike on the Al Ahli hospital was targeting a Hamas command center, without providing evidence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">On Tuesday, the Israeli military said it was looking into the reports about the strike on the Kuwait Specialty Field Hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Dr. Suhaib al-Hamss, the field hospital\u2019s director, said that the guard was killed protecting the entrance to the facility. Four of the wounded suffered serious injuries, he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIt was a powerful strike,\u201d Dr. al-Hamss, 37, said in a phone interview. \u201cEverything fell over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The Israeli military offensive in Gaza has caused immense damage to hospitals and the health care system in the enclave. The World Health Organization <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.emro.who.int\/images\/stories\/Sitrep_57.pdf?ua=1\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> last month that 33 of Gaza\u2019s 36 hospitals had been damaged during the war, and that only 21 remained partly functional. The W.H.O. also <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WHOoPt\/status\/1911131665788739832\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">warned<\/a> on Saturday that hospitals in Gaza face a looming medicine shortage because Israel has blocked aid deliveries for six weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Israel has accused Hamas of exploiting health facilities by using them for military purposes \u2014 allegations that the militant group has denied. <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Dr. al-Hamss said that the hospital\u2019s location was known to the Israeli authorities as it had been shared through intermediaries before the attack.
