Delhi University<\/a> Students\u2019 Union (DUSU<\/a>) president Ronak Khatri<\/a> smeared cow dung on the walls of the Lakshmibai College<\/a> principal’s office on Tuesday, in reaction to a recent viral video showing the principal herself applying cow dung to classroom walls.<\/p>\n

The incident has sparked a major controversy online and on campus. In the viral clip, principal Pratyush Vatsala<\/a> is seen coating classroom walls with cow dung. She later explained that it was part of a faculty-led research project aimed at exploring indigenous and sustainable cooling techniques.<\/p>\n

Ronak Khatri criticised the act, saying students were not informed or asked before classrooms were used for such experiments.<\/p>\n

“No consent was taken from students for such an initiative,” Khatri told PTI Videos while arguing with a faculty member inside the principal’s office.<\/p>\n

“If you want to do research, do it at your home,” he added.<\/p>\n

Khatri later posted on X (formerly Twitter), referencing the viral video and writing sarcastically that he and his supporters had simply gone to \u201chelp\u201d the principal.”We have full faith that madam will now get the AC removed from her room and hand it over to students, and run the college in this modern and natural cool environment smeared with cow dung,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

Principal says it\u2019s part of a research project<\/h2>\n

Responding to the backlash, the principal had earlier told PTI on April 13 that the classroom wall coating was part of a research project being conducted in porta cabins.<\/p>\n

“It is under process. I will be able to share details of the full research after a week,” she said, adding that people were spreading misinformation without understanding the full context.<\/p>\n

“There’s no harm in touching natural mud,” she also said.<\/p>\n

Reports say she had even shared the video in a teachers\u2019 WhatsApp group, explaining that the method was being used in C Block classrooms.<\/p>\n

“Those who have classes here will soon get these rooms in a new look. Efforts are being made to make your teaching experience pleasant,” she wrote.<\/p>\n

There has been no official response from the university yet regarding Tuesday\u2019s incident. Meanwhile, the event has triggered an online debate on student consent<\/a>, research methods, and how traditional techniques should be tested in academic institutions.<\/p>\n
